Active Living Fund

The Active Living Strategy was completed in 2009 and its key recommendation was the creation of an Active Living Fund. The Fund released two calls for proposals in 2010. A total of 41 eligible applications were received and 33 were approved for funding (9 organizational and 24 individual). A total of $194,065 in grants was approved. It should be noted that following the closure of this program, the SCI Initiative continued to support recreation-related needs through the SCI Solutions Fund. Twenty-one recreation-related requests were approved under the Fall 2010 call for applications to the SCI Solutions Fund. The immense demand for financial support in this area is indicative of an overall shortage of funding from other sources and the high value that Albertans with SCI place on an active lifestyle. They recognize that sport and recreation not only enhances their physical well-being, it improves their mental health and their relationships.
